    Neurointerventional Surgery experience

    Diagnostic Neuroradiology
    experience

Training under the supervision of Dr. S K Hendique, Gauhati Neurological Research Centre, Gauhati, Assam.

Training under the supervision of Dr. N Gogoi, Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh, Assam.

Training under the supervision of Dr. A K Gupta/Dr. Santhosh Joseph /Dr. T R Kapilamoorthy, Department of Imaging Sciences & Interventional Radiology, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Science and Technology, Trivandrum, India.

In my residency in Radiology from 1997-2000, I had opportunity to work in Gauhati Neurological Research Centre, Gauhati, Assam. There I learnt the basics of Neuroimaging. During my training period from 01/01/2001 to 31/12/2003 in Neuroradiology, I have been extensively trained in various aspects of cross-sectional (CT & MRI) diagnostic Neuroradiology including MR angiogram, MR spectroscopy, Functional MRI (GE Signa Advantage, 1.5T, Siemens Avanto Tim 1.5 T), CT myelograms and angiograms (GE Hispeed Ct/I), carotid Doppler and Transcranial Doppler (Philips Ultrasound System, GE Ultrasonography System like Logic 500 MR) etc. As an Assistant Professor in SCTIMST (from 02-01-2004 to 28-02-07), I had four reporting sessions of neuroimaging (CT & MRI) per week. During my stay in Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute I had the opportunity to all reporting in PACS (AGFA system). In AMRI, I was working with Signa Excite 1.5T GE and CTi GE and reported about 15-20 neurological MRI and around 25-30 CT scan per day.

During my training period of DM Neuroradiology from 01/01/2001 to 31/12/2003 at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Science and Technology, I had been involved as the assistant and lead operator in the treatment and management of over 350 interventional cases with 150 cases as a lead operator and the rest as first assistant. This involved varied cases like Cerebral Aneurysm coiling, Cerebral AVM embolization, Dural AV Fistula and Caroticocavernous fistula embolization, balloon occlusion test before carotid sacrifice, WADA test for preoperative evaluation of epilepsy cases, carotid stenting, Spinal vascular malformation embolization/SDAVF, Preoperative embolization of tumour, Intracranial Angioplasty and stenting and Percutaneous Vertebroplasty. I performed more than 1500 diagnostic angiograms, which included cerebral angiograms, aortogram and spinal angiograms.

    Training in Clinical Radiology:

Trained under supervision of Dr Mrinal K Dey, Dr Nripen Gogoi at Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Silchar and Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh. I was trained as a junior resident in Clinical Radiology in Silchar Medical College for a period of one year. Then I was trained as a senior resident in Clinical Radiology for a period of 3 years in Assam Medical College and Hospital followed by 3 months in Silchar Medical College and Hospital. My Clinical Radiology postings were in Conventional Radiology, Ultrasound and Doppler, CT and MRI along with 1 in 4 rota for emergency duties.

    Clinical Experience:

After medical school, I had a 6-month posting as a junior resident in General Surgery at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Then during my Neuroradiology residency, I was trained in Neurology and Neurosurgery for a period of 6 months in Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology. So I had total of 1 year of clinical experience.

    Interpersonal and Management Skills:

I have been the rota master at Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Assam Medical College and Hospital and Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Science and Technology. In India, as a Medical officer working in Preventive and Social Medicine Health Centre (2 months), I was involved in rural clinical work as well as administration and management. I was responsible for carrying out the National Health Programme and Emergency services during epidemics. I had a good experience in administration and delegation of duties. I was actively involved in organising conferences on Clinical Radiology during my residency period at Assam Medical College and Hospital and Interventional Neuroradiology conferences during my residency period at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Science and Technology. I was actively involved in the administrative management of my department in AMRI hospital. In James Cook Hospital, UK, I had a very good experience in interacting with my colleagues of Neurology and Neurosurgery department during interdepartmental meetings and in clinical decision-making meetings.

    Teaching Experience:

During senior residency in Assam Medical College and Hospital and Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Science and Technology, I taught junior residents and medical students. I was involved in training residents in radiology and my colleagues in clinical fields both in conventional and cross-sectional imaging. I conducted regular seminars, lectures and case discussions during my tenure. I also provided teaching sessions for the paramedical staff (nurses and radiographers). As an Assistant Professor in Neuroradiology at SCTIMST, I was actively involved in teaching students of Clinical Radiology and Neuroradiology, Neurology and Neurosurgery. I was also involved in departmental management, CME and in research work in various projects. I was involved in teaching Neuroradiology to DNB Radiology and Neurology students. I had 4 DNB Radiology students under me in AMRI hospital and audited the following thesis work under me –
